Video: Comedian Pete Holmes pours his pain into his HBO Comedy “Crashing”

Talking to Esquire Magazine Pete Holmes said his new Crashing show is “a bit like therapy and a bit like an episode of The Twilight Zone

Crashing does borrow from Holmes’ real-life pain – who finds out his wife is cheating on him, has no money, and, to that end, is forced to jumpstart his then-fledgling career as a stand-up comic.

This review in Variety gave us Crashing in a nut-shell – thanks to the “warmth of its cast and guest stars, “Crashing” manages to display a lively and patient curiosity about failure, divorce and not having a place to live.”
Show’s idea was born on a pitch made to Judd Apatow, who first said “too sad” and reflected recently with a laugh, “In truth, the worse the circumstances the more I like it. I like when people have a real story to tell.”
Both Apatow & Holmes are confident ‘that while unique and specific, the life and struggles of a stand-up comic will ultimately resonate with a broad audience.’

Every human being can relate to wanting their thoughts and their feelings to be accepted and rewarded and validated,” offered Holmes.
